Thanks so much for the advice so far
. The company is definitely interested in trying to get me to move, so I'm heading down there for a visit the week of the 26th. I'll get to work down there to see how I like the company and group dynamic, and then they're also giving me time to scope out living areas, horse boarding, etc.
I'm going to explore the Alpharetta area first because they (apparently) have a bunch of horse farms. So we'll see how that goes. I have no idea if it will work out, but if it seems like they might, I'll fly down again middle of October with DH in tow.
I used to travel for business 3-5 times per year and I really miss it, so kind of excited just to go somewhere no matter what the outcome is!
I guess this was more of just a sharing post than anything else, so thanks for letting me talk about it. I'm not really talking about this to many people offline yet.
Re: Atlanta job adventure continues
Exciting. Alpharetta is real nice but I will warn you traffic on GA 400 (which is the toll road that connects Alpharetta with Atlanta) is probably the worst in the city BUT it's on the MARTA line so that makes it a little easier. They are also working to make it a smoother ride but something to consider. Being from the NOVA/DC area I'm sure its something you are somewhat used to.
It is close to some great shopping though- it's close to IMO are the the two best malls in Atlanta plus some really great outlets a little further north. It also has a pretty young, urban and affluent population ( which means good schools too).
GL with everything- I hope it all works out with whats best for you and your H.
Thanks ladies! Sunshine...that's what the Atlanta office told me too. But you're right, with DC traffic, I'm pretty prepared for the worst
. I tend to also lean toward living closer to my horses than the office because I go out to the barn a lot on weekends, holidays, etc. They did tell me I should live north rather than south of the city, because the office is in Midtown (I think you guys told me that too). Any other areas north that might be fun?
Naylon...that's my thinking as well. And DH and I both like the Atlanta area (based on prior visits). Our two sticking points are our house and DH's school. We'd probably have to live separately for up to a year so DH could finish school up here to avoid losing credits during a transfer. But, I suppose that's still easier than moving with kids!
A little further to the East is John's Creek and Duluth which are also nice. John's Creek is a new city while Duluth is a little more established. There are lots of nice areas to live around the area ( maybe not Duluth proper though). I think the demographic in those areas might be older though.
If you come south from Alpharetta you have Dunwoody ( where Naylon's BIL is); Roswell, Sandy Springs which are great too. Those areas would put you in between your horses and work
A lot of it depends on what you are looking for housing wise ( rent vs buy and your price range. South of Alpharetta will cost more because it's closer to being ITP. I'm not sure how John's Creek compares.
Are they providing you with a Realtor or anything?
