if you read blogs...question

I've been wanting to do a video blog (I hate the word vlog) ever since I figured out how to work our skype camera.  I have a few ideas of what I could do but, if you read blogs, what kind of topics would you want to see on a video blog?

    Something that teaches me something.

That's what I plan on (I hate video reviews of books and stuff like that)....but what?  One of my ideas was showing my coupon folder, it's definitely not as complicated as some of the couponing sites and my readers might like it.

  • Honestly, I hate video blogs.  Even my favorite blogs I will skip reading that day if they've decided to do a video.  It probably relates to the fact that I love reading & don't really care for watching TV.  And since I read blogs at my desk, the sound that goes with a video is a bad thing for me.  I prefer step-by-step pictures.

The only video blogs I have seen & appreciated was someone showing how to do an updo.  I've never had hair long enough for an updo prior to now, so I never learned how to do it.  Seeing the actual process someone goes through made me feel like I could do it too.  I haven't actually tried yet though.  But that's something that you really can't take step-by-step pictures of it while doing it unless you have a go-go-gadget-hand.

  • What are you good at? What are you comfortable teaching? And I guess the most important; it needs to be something you love doing.
  • I follow your blog and love it!

That being said, I'm not a fan of video blogs either. I dont normally read those posts. If I do watch videos they are for up-do's/hairstyles/makeup like halfpint said or for DIY home projects.

Also, halfpintaggie: here is my favorite hair blog with video and picture tutorials!

I just found that blog earlier this week.  He hair's the same length as mine so her tutorials are great for me.

After thinking about it some more, I figured out why I really don't like video blogs.  They are usually so awkward or poorly done that it's painful to watch.  I feel embarassed for the people.  Kind of like watching how awkward the contestants are on camera for Design Star.  It just hurts me for them.

  • I usually skip video blogs too, but there are two or three blogs that I really love reading.  They've posted a couple of videos over the past couple of years and I really like to see those.  Not all the time though, just once every six months or year.

Vlog always makes me think of vag.  I don't like it either.

I think on a video blog I would like to see how to do something, like DIY crafts, instead of pictures of each step.  I think that having the directions written out as well as seeing someone model the process might help me understand some of the steps better, especially if I've never heard of some of the material or process.

Aww, thank you!  I'm going to check out that hair tutorial too. I'm in a rut.

  • I don't bother watching video blogs unless it is a video of a cute kid.  I don't have the patience for watching videos online.

That video cracks me up everytime.  Which reminds me I really need to get our Disneyland stuff blogged.  We have a hysterical video of her on her first rollercoaster...

  • I only watch how-to type videos if it's something that really takes skill.  i.e. a craft or art technique that I'd like to try.   But then I also agree with halfpint, most of the video blogs done by average people are so awkward that I quit watching after a minute. My DH watches a lot of how-to type video blogs though, but his are all along the lines of "how to build a wind generator using only a honda alternator and spare machine parts" he doesn't care if they are awkward because he's so focused on how to make the whatchamadoodle fit with the thingamabobber and maintain a seal or whatever.  Huh?

I do love to watch videos of kids and pets though.

My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.
