Bye Bye Macbook Pro

CryingCryingCrying My beloved 4 year old Macbook Pro has died for the second time in 4 weeks. Apple replaced the battery last time in exchange for 100 of my US Dollars. I came home tonight only to find that it had a similar problem. It won't boot up whether it's plugged in, the battery is in, the battery is out, AC power only, etc. I suspect a problem with the system board or the power supply. Since it's so old, I will probably replace it. Hopefully, the Genius Bar can at least get it to the point that it can boot up tomorrow. If not, I'll be borrowing an old Mac from a friend to get my data off of it.

I'm not upset about the hardware dying. I really, really, really hate setting all of my programs back up and getting the Mac back the way I like it.

Re: Bye Bye Macbook Pro

  • Boo! Still... 4 yrs is a good lifetime for a laptop. My first guess would be power supply, and then possibly motherboard.

Oh well, at least you can look forward to the new features - SD card reader, new trackpad, etc.

It does suck getting everything setup again. I'm looking at doing a full reformat to install Lion, since I only did the update to Snow Leopard. Updates on top of updates aren't a good idea. If you don't have/use Time Machine for back-ups, I highly recommend it. You don't have to use the Time Capsule, but it does make it easy.

  • Oh boo! 4 years though is a long time.

I use Time Machine AND I do manual backups. (No, I'm not paranoid. Embarrassed)I'm not worried about the data. It's more the PITA factor of rebuilding everything. I do it for a living since I'm in IT, and I just HATE doing it to my own stuff.
