Hello

I've been lurking and trying to post more often. I've mainly been posting on the TK (I know I'm lame). It has been a long hard road for us lately. Edmund's surgery was cancelled yet again. We have had 2 surgery dates and both have been cancelled.

We had to have a second NAM made because Edmund had an allergic reaction to the tape used to secure it and it tore up his cheeks pretty badly. We have been at the NAM for 3 months now and Edmund's cleft has gone from 2.5cm to 1cm. Unfortunately both the orthodontist and the plastic surgeon agree that we got the short end of the stick and the NAM is just no longer going to work.

He had another allergic reaction to another tape we were using and now when we try to put the NAM in it gags him and causes him to spit up. So we will get to meet with the orthodontist for our normal appointment on Monday and also meet with the plastic surgeon to talk about getting a new surgery date scheduled. I have to continue to tape his lip but no longer have to put the NAM in his mouth. The tape alone should help keep the NAM closed and not allow it to widen we hope at least.

I'm so ready for this all to be over.

Re: Hello

  • You are such a strong mama. You are doing a great job with ALL of this! Keep your chin up and know I am thinking of you guys.

Is there any thing you could use instead of tape?

  • I wish there was something other than tape or another surgery that could be done. Well there are but none of the hospitals in our area offer them and they would still require at least 2 more surgeries added to do anything. So instead of just 2 in the first year there would be at least 4. I actually looked into places that did the latham but we would have to temporarily relocate to another state to do them which we can't afford right now.

The plastic surgeon said last month that he could go ahead and do the surgery at any point. It may mean adding another surgery later on in his life but right now that sound's way better to both my H and I than to go through anymore of the stress we are experiencing right now that is really tearing the 2 of us apart.

I'm also trying to get into my doctor to discuss the PPD that I have been experiencing. I've been really hard on myself and it took quite awhile to break out of my shell and talk to H about it. I'm hoping that the support group I have joined  and that talking to my doctor will help and I won't need to be put on medication for it. We shall see though.

  • {{hugs}}  I'm so sorry you're going through all of this.  You've been so strong and amazing through it all, and I hope that you get (and keep) new surgery date soon.

And please take care of yourself too. Hopefully the support group will help you work through some of your feelings.

Hugs for you with the PPD too.  That can't be an easy thing to deal with.

  • I am so sorry you are having to go through all of this.  I hope that the surgery is scheduled soon, and that you start to see some light at the end of the tunnell.

Speaking from someone who has sufferred from PPD, please just remember it is ok, and that talking to your doctor is the best thing you can do.  It took me a while to move past it, but I finally did. Stay strong, and I am glad that your DH is supportive.

If you ever need to talk or have questions about it, I am an open book to any of the Aug 09 Nesties, (especially if I can help in any way) please feel free to PM me.

    Big hugs.

  • You are an awesome momma for being able to handle all of this as well as you have. I would've throat punched a doctor by now for trying to reschedule and delay things. Hopefully Edmund gets in for his surgery soon.

I've also been dealing with some PPD, so I'm here to talk if you need it as well. I agree that it's okay to ask for help. Hormones are just mean.

  • Poor little guy! I'm sorry you guys have to deal with all of this and hope things look up soon. PPD must be so hard too. Please feel free to let me know if you need to talk. I had baby blues pretty bad - not the same I know, but I think that talking about it early (esp with someone who could relate ie katsblaze) really really helped.
