Fall weather! Brrrr

My house was only 65 when I woke up this morning! And it's only going to be 60 today - I'm guessing my a/c won't be kicking on lol. It's probably time to just open the windows during the day.

How cold does it have to be before you turn your heat on? I know H will want to wait until the end of October but I'm already thinking about it.  It feels like summer just started and its already gone! Anyone else feel like that?

Re: Fall weather! Brrrr

  • Ours is on already, we pretty much flicked the switch from a/c to heat! Our house is pretty small though, so that is the one good thing about it is it's cheap to heat/cool.

  • I was just thinking about this this morning.  I woke up and I was pretty chilly.  I didn't take the time to look at the thermostat this morning, but I'm sure it was somewhere in the 60s.  I will probably wait until I can't stand it any more.  DH is usually pretty warm, and I have lots of socks and sweatshirts... I figure once the outside temps are hanging in the 50's and 60's consistently we'll switch the heat on for good.  But it's supposed to get warmer again this weekend, so for now I'll just bundle up!

  • I woke up at 2am freezing.  We already had two blankets on the bed (although one is quite thin).  I added the comforter before I went back to sleep.  No heat for us yet, but I see it in the near future if things don't warm up a bit outside.  We like to wait until October if we can.

  • It's supposed to be warming back up into the 70's so I won't be turning my heat on yet.  We hold out as long as possible, we have electric heat and need to reinsulate our house so our heating costs are crazy!  I also don't have a baby in the house to worry about though so I may turn it on sooner if I had a LO.

  • So jealous!  It's still h-o-t in Houston.  I was beside myself when I woke up and it was 70 this morning.  It's still supposed to get up to 93 though.  I'm guessing it will be October or  November before we start seeing low 60s at night.  Siiiiggggghhhh.

Yes indeed! It is perfect weather for lattes.

  • I woke up this morning and the thermostat said 62.  I attempted to turn the heat on "to take the chill out of the air" but was greeted with a bizarre "Error" message on the digital thermostat.  Needless to say I'm perplexed and my desire for heat was denied.  Apparently I'm not meant to have it on this early. Huh?

  • I most defintiely thought about turning on the heat before I go to bed tonight - over night the temperature in our apartment dropped 10 degrees - I was freezing this morning!
  • I generally keep the heat at 62 at night.  I haven't turned it on yet, but I don't think the house has gotten below 62 anyway.  We actually slept with the windows open two nights ago - I would have for the last couple too, but DH said no.  Ah, being pregnant & hot all the time.

If LO was on the outside, I'd probably switch the heat on just to make sure it doesn't get colder than I think it will.  I figure if we get a little chilly at night, its not like its going to hurt us.

  • I have no control over the heat right now due to living with the in-laws.  Sad

  • It's has to be very cold!! H & I love sleeping when it's cold out, we actually had the window open and the fan going last night! DD was bundled up in her winter pjs and I checked on her a couple times last night and she was fine.

After our gas bills last winter we are going to hold out as long as we can. When DD was a baby we had the heat set at between 70 and 72 all winter. Now that she is a bigger I am hoping I can keep it lower this winter.

  • It is comfortable! I love fall. It is great for snuggling. It has to be very cold before we think about turning on the heat. Blankets and warm clothes have to not be doing the job. We both sleep better in the cool.
  • we turned the heat on last night -- it was very chilly, but I love this weather too :)
