On my trip just now to pick up lunch, I spied a new soda in the refrigerator case - Dr. Pepper Ten. It's like a version between regular and diet, with 10 calories per serving. As I hate the taste of artificial sweeteners, I decided to try it out.
It's pretty good, which led me to wonder, is this a new trend in sodas? So I went to their website, and here's what it says about this soda:
"Introducing Dr Pepper TEN. 10 bold tasting calories with the same authentic 23 flavors of Dr Pepper. That?s a whole lot of taste in one can. Try it today and see why Dr Pepper TEN is not for women."
Really? Really? Not for women? What kind of an idiot wrote that product description? Am I going to grow hair on my chest now from drinking this?
Product marketing fail.
Re: Really, Dr. Pepper?
If I recall, this was the same reasoning for Pepsi One - that men didn't want to drink diet soda. (Which will come as news to the several men I saw drinking Diet Coke at my 9am staff meeting today.) So, the answer was basically to make a diet soda that is not called diet soda.
Coke also had something a few years ago called C2, that was a half diet/half regular version of Coke. I think it failed miserably, though.
I think Coke Zero was marketed that way too. So. dumb.

::scratches head:: That is bizarre that they would put that on the can. I don't know any men who are weird about drinking diet soda.
