I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I was dealing with a running injury. My right hip was really bugging me, to the point where I was limping after runs. There was even one 4 mile run that I had to quit 3.5 miles in and just limp the rest of the way home. Not good, especially since I have a race on Oct 9.
I tried foam rolling and some IT band stretches per Breaux's advice, but wasn't seeing any improvement, so earlier this week I saw an orthopedic surgeon about it. He took xrays, asked lots of questions, and moved my leg around a lot and gave me good news: it's not a stress fracture, or anything else serious. Just an external hip rotator strain/gluteal strain. I have to do a couple weeks of physical therapy, but I can run on it without doing any damage (it's just uncomfortable). He recommended taking a couple anti-inflammatories before runs, and that has really helped. I ran 6 miles last night, and while I could definitely feel it, it wasn't too painful - I didn't even have to take walking breaks! Phew, I'm so relieved!
