Healthy food!

I know some of you on here are maybe trying to find healthier food and H made this recipe the other night (from his favorite 'man blog' lol).  It was so good.  H likes to experiment with food, so he changed a couple things.  Mainly, we didn't have the sambal chili sauce so he used hoisin I think in the burger and then for the peanut sauce he used that plus sweet chili sauce (mae ploy?).  This burger thing was so amazing.

This was also a good thing for us because it's a nice alternative to red meat (and I'm sure you could make it vegetarian too).  We mostly eat chicken and beef, sometimes pork, sometimes lamb and then occasionally no meat.  I would like to cook seafood, but H is totally over it (ate it a lot in AK) and I am a little scared (plus I mostly only like clams or salmon).  Plus I don't know how to pick it out and I always assume it's expensive.  Oh and I'm lazy and the chicken/beef are easy to freeze/thaw.

Re: Healthy food!

  • that looks awesome! but seems like too many ingredients for me and h to handle haha.

lol  there was kind of a lot of stuff going on in the kitchen, but it was so worth it.  Also, I managed to take it to lunch in pieces so it did work for leftovers (bun, topping and burger with the peanut sauce on it -> toasted/heated and assembled).

ok guys, if my non-chef H could tackle this, I'm sure you could do it!

PS my H loves to get crazy with these recipes, but he can't make a salad to save his life.  No joke.  They turn out horrible and I have to salvage it.

  • MMmmm might have to give these a try!

this is kinda what i thought too.. i like to have less than 10 ingredients.. but that's also probably why half the time the food isn't what i want.. if i don't know what something is or don't have it, i probably won't buy it so it doesn't go to waste. i really wanna try these thougH!

    lol

well sarack, you could just use what you have and change it up.  We had green onions and did that instead of cilantro.  We also had slightly different spices on hand and used those (didn't have turmeric so he used a little curry powder I think).  We don't cook like this all the time - in fact, it's usually H who finds these crazy recipes, lol - but it is a nice change now and then
