We are looking at a house that would definately need all of the windows and most likely sliding glass doors replaced. the house isn't that old (1997) so not sure if they were shiity to begin with or what. I'm wondering what to budget to replace them all. I know it will be a hefty amount but if we can get the house at a decent price, we would have money to put for windows and more. So who would you recommend for a window company? What type do you have? Aluminum, wood, etc? How much to budget per window?

Re: Windows
No recommendations but DO NOT USE Champion. My sister has been waiting over a year for her window to be replaced. Long story but they are hell to work with and have come out to replace her window on 3 different occasions, broke two windows, and now arent returning her calls. Her windows they are sup to be replacing is being held in place with duck tape! AWESOME right.
Good luck!
We used World of Windows for the last house, and I will never use them again. The price was right, but they were total @ssholes when it came to install. They wouldn't show up on time, just wouldn't show up, and when I finally got through to the owner, he was a total d!ck too. When I told him my complaints, he basically told me my time wasn't worth anything and I need to pay the rest of the bill or he was going to contact his lawyers. It sucked because the windows were good quality, but when we decided to do the basement work, we paid more to go with Omaha Garage and Door (??) and were much happier with their customer service.
With WoW, we paid like $200 per window and replaced 11 windows. When we replaced a big picture window and 3 egress windows in the basement, we paid just as much as the 11 windows upstairs.
This is who I meant!
We have considered windows because our house was built in 1993. We have a two story with a LOT of windows, and most are very good size. We need to have one window replaced, but whenever we get a quote they want to quote the whole house as well.
We got prices for Casement (crank out) wood windows with either aluminum or stuff like trex decks for our quotes. Low e glass. We did not want cheap vinyl.
Here are prices as I remember them
no-name (can't remember) window installer with crappy windows: $1000 for our big window or $10000 for the house
Anderson: $4500 for our big window, $18000 for the house
Pella: $5000 for the big window, around $18000 for the house.
Like I said, these were pretty much the second from the top as far as the quality of the window.
The patio slider DH did himself when we moved in. We spent probably $1000 total, but didn't get a really expensive door.

Omaha Door and Window is super reliable. They've been around for a long time and do really good work. At my last job I worked with them a lot on commercial projects but I'd trust them to work on my home as well.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
I used to work for Monarch Siding & Windows in papillion. Very nice company and they are reasonable. I replaced a lot of my windows through them and I love the product. Windows now a days are mainly vinyl but you can get the wood grain color if you want. They do siding, roofing, decks, etc. If I ever build a house like I want I definetly will go back to them.
If you call them tell them Lindsay recommended you. 402-596-1414.
I would have too agree! Our windows were supposed to be replaced in May (when I was pregnant with Cooper) and they didn't completely finish until JANUARY when I had a new little baby at home. We have had issues with a couple of the windows and another contractor is telling me that it is because it was SO cold when the windows were installed that they didn't seal properly.
