I thought about putting this in the temporary tattoo post, but thought most people wouldn't see it now. Since so many of you are moms or are about to be moms, I feel called to share this tip. ![]()
When we were little, we had a password. Any time (and my mother stressed ANY time) we would be picked up by someone else or were suppose to go to someone else's house, that person would know the password. Our password was geranium. My mother didn't send strangers to pick us up haha, but from like the age of 3 I knew to never ever go with anyone who didn't know the password. Even when my grandad or uncle would come to get us, I would say "what's the password?" I think my mother is a genius for that, and I'll definitely do the same thing with my kids.
Re: PSA: Re: Children and strangers
YES -- We had something very similar growing up, and it's also something I plan on using with Sam.
And I have to remind myself not to call it a "safe word"...... ?_?

yep we had the same thing (pw was green beans).

I had this too. Ours was muffin. Of course, I never used it because it was always my mom or my stepdad or my dad picking me up from somewhere but at least it was there.
It's definitely something I plan on doing with our kids.
Oh good, I'm glad some other parents did this, too! I think it really cuts down on that "but the stranger knows my name.." stress. Or for another example, when my mom and stepdad were dating, he knew the password (not right away). If I ever were a single mom, I wouldn't want to worry about every random guy I dated possibly being crazy and abducting my kids.... and they freely go with him because they "know" him.
We had one as well...our family pw was "Tom and Jerry."
It was my brother's favorite show when he was little and they picked it before I was born. lol
In regards to the bolded part, another PSA: Do NOT put your child's name on his/her book bags/lunch boxes in a highly visible area. Very easy for Creeper to walk behind them and go, "Oh, Johnny, you're mommy told me to come pick you up." I know lots of parents do that so their kids don't lose their bags, but it makes me shudder every time a see a Kindergartener walk down the hall with a name on their bag. Put it inside.
