Peyton's birth story

Well let's just say Peyton Elizabeth arrival in the world was a whirlwind.

On Saturday, September 10, I made a comment at my shower that she can arrive anytime after Sunday because we still had a few things left to get but that once we got those then we were good for her to come (thinking she would at least wait another week).

On Sunday I started hurting some and timed them some but they were not consistent  labor pains as some would be 5 minutes apart, 20-30 minutes, an hour, etc so I didn't think anything of it as I thought it was just pains associated with it and I had the pains before. Throughout the night I was having pains about every 2 hours and on Monday when the alarm went off I told G I didn't feel like going to work because I was tired. He made me call the doctor to get an appointment to see what was going on.

I went in at 10:30 a.m. to get checked out and I was 1 cm dilated and I was like all that pain for 1 cm. He hooked me up to the monitor where they check to see if you are contracting and check heart rate. After being hooked up for about 30 minutes doctor came in and said that he noticed that when I was having contractions her heart rate was dipping and he didn't like that. He said something about the plactea (I don't remember exactly because all I was thinking about was her heart rate going down) and he wanted to send me to L&D where they have better monitoring. So off we went down the hallway and got checked in and put in a room. They had a hard time keeping her on the monitor because she usually only gives you about 20-30 minutes of checking her heart rate and then she is done, so the nurse had to hold it there some. They couldn't believe how she moved around so much and I'm like "tell me about it". After about an hour our OB came in and said that her heart rate went down 2 or 3 times and he felt that it was best to take her. He said because she was 38 weeks that it was safe to take her but if she was any less then they would do what they can to stop contractions. He said the only thing he worried about was lungs and that she may have to go to NICU for a little while, but because she was already doing her breathing in the wound he felt she was okay.

The funny part of all this is the OB told G that he felt he had time to go home and get our suitcase and the rest of the stuff we had left to pack but I guess the OR people had different plans because they were coming in and talking about getting me ready, so I called G and he basically just walked in the door at home grabbed the suitcase and walked out. He got there just in time and they threw scrubs at him and told him to suit up and they wheeled me back. They took me in the OR and gave me my spinal tap, which I felt I did pretty good at getting as that was the one thing I was worried about but I felt I did really good. After they put the tap in me they started preping me and G came in and sat at my head. At 2:47 p.m. the most perfect little baby was born. She was 9 pounds 7 ounces and 20 inches long, but looking at her I don't know where she is putting that 9 pounds as she does not look like she weighs that much. They only had to do a little bit of oxygen on her and I think what they did was normal for what they do to babies.

Once they got me all ready they took me back to my room and I got to meet Peyton for the first time. She is so perfect and so sweet. She had so many visitors and everyone just loved her. The nurses all bragged on her and I might be biased but I think she is the most perfect baby.

So far, knock on wood, she is a good baby. She really only cries for food, diaper changing and when you change her clothes but she settles down quickly. Last night was our first night at home and she did so good.

I am still hurting some from my c-section but it is not as bad as it was Monday and Tuesday and now that I am home in my own bed I feel better. I just have to remember to walk slowly and listen to my body to slow down some. My mom is here in the mornings to help me get a shower because I don't feel comfortable doing that myself and just to help out a little bit, which is a life saver.

Peyton has a little bit of jaundice but her pedi is not too concerned and is keeping an eye on her levels. We are to go Saturday to get them checked again.

I can't believe that this time last year I was thinking that we may never have a child and here we are today with this most precious child. God is great and His timing is perfect. We are so in love with her.

Thank you to everyone for all your prayers and thoughts and getting us through all our IF troubles and through this pregnancy.
