Controversial Clicky: Public Speaking

I just had to send out an email to a very large email list at work. Which got me thinking about big crowds.

Re: Controversial Clicky: Public Speaking

  • I put SS because neither would really bother me.  If I had to pick one or the other, it would depend largely on the topic.  If it's something more casual, I don't mind speaking...and then you don't have to deal with the replies back via email.  Stick out tongue  But if it's something more formal that I would need time to really think through and prepare for, then the email would cut out the actual presentation step...so I'd rather do that.

  • On a topic I know - I'd rather speak.

I actually have an email that needs to be sent to approx 800 people and I haven't pulled the trigger on it. I hate the bounce backs.

  • I said email, I prefer having time to put my thoughts in writing.  But, I'm not afraid of public speaking.

  • High School theater got me over stage fright, college Debate class got me over speaking in front of people (not in character, but as myself, with significantly less distance/no stage protection). Public speaking doesn't bother me a wit now.

Sending that large an email? I've never had to send more than to maybe 100 people, so wow, I would fear the obnoxious bounce backs, depending the system having to select all the subgroups to send, too, etc. I wouldn't be afraid of it, just would want to procrastinate to avoid.

  • they're both scary. people can analyze every word when you email them...they can read it incorrectly, it's hard to address questions, people could ignore you... and in person is just scary in case you fumble.

positives is you can think and rewrite what you have in an email over and over until you *think* it's perfect.

positives for speaking, if you know the topic, people will sense your confidence, and sense any vibes you give.

FWIW, i chose email...but it was hard to choose that.
