quick question

I am planning to upholster a headboard later today. But... something that drives me crazy is the strong "wood smell" that plywood gives off. Has anyone who has made one (or knows anything about it) have any good ideas about how to get rid of that? Does it just go away on its own in a few days? Will I need to put some kind of stain/sealer on it?

I'm really clueless, so TIA for any help!

Re: quick question

  • Give it plenty of ventilation. If it's stacked in boards, separate them so the air can circulate more. Put them in room with open windows and point a fan over them. Stain/sealer will not make it go away faster. In fact, it might cause the smell to linger and will definitely add to the smell because of the solvents in the stain. I know you said you're planning to do it today, but I would strongly advise waiting to cover it until the off-gassing lessens.

  • Thanks! We bought the stuff last night and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We definitely opened the windows and closed the bedroom door, though!
