My irrational fear

We have about a month before we close and move into the new house, so it's time to start packing. I have this irrational fear that something might go wrong at the last minute and I'm going to be stuck with a house that's 3/4s packed up. Arggg

Re: My irrational fear

  • I wouldn't say that is irrational. I wouldn't start until the last week when you have approval.

  • We didn't start packing until a week before closing. It was a lot of work, packing up each night when we got home from work, but since we still needed to live there, it was necessary.
  • We started packing about a month before we closed, starting with stuff we didn't need very often.  Once you finish that, then pack the rest when it's closer to moving time.  Good luck!

  • Get on it!

The alternative - everything goes right and you are stuck with an unpacked house would be a huge pain in the neck.

  • We started packing up after our offer was accepted since we knew the house appraisal would be fine as would our loan application.  The inspection was an unknown, but we were pretty confident it wouldn't reveal anything that would make us walk for the price we were getting the home for.

We started with things that are rarely used (seasonal decor, china, crystal, serving pieces, winter wardrobe, etc.).  It really helped to have that done before the massive packup.
