Okay, so we bought our house in July 2009, and we pay our homeowner's insurance with our mortgage (so we pay Wells Fargo, and they pay the insurance company all at once).
We got a letter back in May saying that our policy (with Progressive) was no longer going to be underwritten by Homesite of the Midwest. It was changing to Homesite of Georgia. Okay, fine. The amount went up some too, of course, but after comparing to other companies, we decided to stay with them.
We renewed the policy with the new company, got paperwork from them, signed and returned it.
Then, I called Wells Fargo to confirm that they are aware of the increase in price to make sure they are taking out more every month so we aren't hit with a bill when the year is up. They confirm the policy number they have on file (which matched the new one) and the amount was correct (the new one). They said there's nothing we need ot do.
We get a letter in July reminding us of the policy being cancelled because of the company change. So I call again, verify again, and all is fine.
I get a letter today from Wells Fargo saying that our insurance has lapsed, they have taken out a temporary insurance binder (60 days) on our house to cover the structure only, and we will have to pay them for that if we don't prove that or insurance never lapsed. They want us to fax proof of the policy to them ASAP.
Um, hello?!? This is why I called you twice and asked you before the end of July.
Ugh, I'm so POed at them.
Re: I hate you, Wells Fargo.
Wow...just wow.... All this makes me SO glad DH and I have never run into these problems. We used USAA to buy our current home, and already had our homeowner's with them for our old house. Process was smooth as butter. I am SO glad that both DH and I had used USAA in the past and could continue to do so as married adults.
