Knitting caps for preemies?

My cousin's wife just delivered triplets, 2-2.5lbs each! I was thinking of sending them some little caps, but wasn't sure what the best yarn weight & fiber content are and what circumference to make them. Any tips or a link to a good site for this?

Thanks!

Re: Knitting caps for preemies?

  • I use this site a lot for sizing. http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/size-chart.html She also has a lot of other great information on her site. I'd use any sort of baby soft yarn, preferably a cotton.

  • I remember once seeing a tutorial on making preemie caps from socks...

    *looking... looking...*

    Aha!  Here ya go.

  • OMG I went to look at that tutorial and clicked around a bit.... Crying The little girl that the tutorial author was making hats for passed away.  Sweet little baby.
  • Thanks Lacey! That's exactly what I needed. Smile  Now the "hard" part, deciding what yarn to use (and figuring out where I stashed all my dpns, I haven't knit a thing in 3yrs).

Thanks for the sock tip, too, mah. I don't sew, but I think if I got some of these prepped I could talk my mom into sewing them up.

They're very easy. Since I last posted ^^^ up there I went to Target and made 10 of them!

I know, I saw that, too.  Did you see that they are expecting again?

The hats would also be good for dolls. They're definitely quick and easy to make.
