NY/NJ girls

How far away are all of you from Broadway?  Newsies opens up on September 25 at the papermill playhouse.  I am in love with this movie and have been since it hit theaters and can't stand that it's on broadway soon and I'm not seeing it.

Point being, if I fly up (it may be March before I can) can I crash on a couch and who wants to see it with me?

ETA: how far apart are la guardia and newark?  Is it better to fly into one over the other?

Re: NY/NJ girls

  • Paper Mill isn't Broadway.  It's a professional theater, but it's in NJ, in Millburn.  I'm about 30-40 minutes from there and have seen many shows there.  It's a phenomenal theater company, and they put on productions that really rival Broadway shows.  The most recent ones I've seen there were Jane Eyre, Hairspray, and Lost in Yonkers.  LOVE that theater.

I get their mailings and saw the Newsies thing.  I'd want to see that... but have already told E I'd love tickets to White Christmas as my Chanukah present.  They're putting that on in November.

I showed this post to E and he said you're welcome to stay with us if you wanna come up and see it with me!  I love that movie too & wasn't gonna see it 'cause E's not interested.  But if you were here...

  • Ha, I just assumed Broadway.  Do you know how long it's playing there?  I found some cheap plane tickets for February but I don't know how long it's playing.

  • I just found it.  It's only there for 4 weeks!  What the heck?  Ugh, I can't make it by then.  I'm going to be so sad that I can't see it.  Maybe it will tour or come back...

  • Ah, damn!  I was actually getting excited at the idea of you coming out here.  Still, you could always find another reason to come out in February...
  • I'm a few hours away.

That being said, Newsies was one of my favorite movies growing up. I'll hop a train and watch it with you!!!!

    Damn it!

I had no idea Papermill was in Millburn. I'm overly stoked about this.

  • Marcy, if you still want to go, I can do one of the early/mid October shows.
  • Yes!

Let me check my lecture schedule.

  • Cool!  It's b'way prices, so I'd prefer Orchestra 2 or 3 if that doesn't bother you.

  • I'm contemplating taking a day off to come up there.  I can't stand not seeing it.  For real!  Let me see what the finances are and maybe I can swing it!

  • OOO-this would be fun!

Let me know what date you ladies pick.  I have a really hectic October coming up, but hopefully I am free!!!

  • OMG, this is getting better by the second! And Ash, you've got one less expense... as long as you're not terribly allergic to cats, the guest room is reserved for you.
  • Unfortunately I can't come.  All the cheap tickets are on days I can't take off work or I have something that weekend.  Please go and tell me all about it though!

I'm going to pray they don't just end there.  Surely, it'll go off broadway or tour or something **crosses fingers**

Maybe one day we can do a NYC weekend.  Broadway shows and sightseeing.  That would be fun!

  • I'm in! FYI, since I just now saw your edit, Newark is in NJ and LaGuardia in Queens. In miles, it's close but with city traffic, it's a real pain unless you're staying in NYC. If you fly into Newark, Eric or I could easily pick you up; it's really close to us.
  • I'm also game for a NYC weekend.
