So does it count as knitting
if I use a loom? I made my first knitting project today, a baby hat for by newborn nephew, but does it actually count as knitting or just a homemade project? And if I can figure out how to post pics from my phone, I'll PIP, because while simple, it's so cute!
I would like to actually learn to knit as well

Any knitting project is a homemade project.
I'd totally be telling people I knit something, even if it was with a knitting loom. I'm always so excited to just finish a project.
Loom knitting has a loooong history- it's the traditional way to knit in some regions of the world! There are a ton of ways to knit with different utensils (even just off your fingers!). You knitted.
I do think knitting with needles is well worth learning, though. You'll enjoy the wider options you'll have with your projects.
But what if it's crochet??
Not that OP's project isn't knitting. I think the fabric output matters more than the technique in this case, whether with a loom or pointy sticks. Loom knitting is definitely considered knitting.

That is exactly what I was talking about! People who don't do one or the other always get them confused. To them, yarn = knitting
Well, that's just silly. And incorrect.
