Need help choosing toddler size for sewing costume

I don't post on here, but was directed here since the girls on my anniversary board said you would most likely be able to help!

I am making my daughters (13 months) halloween costume (the dog one below) and I am not 100% sure what size to choose.

http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6416-products-14679.php?page_id=915&search_control=display&list=searchSo I am between size 1/2 and size 1 (size chart here http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/toddlers--pages-584.php  )Does anyone know how the 1/2 measures up to regular clothing sizes (12M?) Or is size 1 12M? The approximate hight thing is confusing me. At her last dr visit she was 29.5. But she is a thin girl and is 18.5 chest and 19 waist .

Would hate to make something that ends up being huge or too small.

Thank You so much!

  • Evie will make an adorable puppy! :)

I'd make the costume for her height. After you try it on her you can take it in at the chest/waist to make it fit better.

  • I have long, skinny children.

What works for me is to cut the majority of the pattern to their corresponding chest measurement. Then, you cut everything that's meant to be long on a kid to their height measurement.

So the sides of that you would cut to the 1/2, and the legs, arms, and crotch to 1.

    Does that make sense?

If not, let me know and I'll photoshop into the line drawing where I'm talking about.

That does make sense! Great Idea and thank you!
