Ugh! Grammatical errors in work emails.

Especially important work emails.

This guy CONSISTENTLY f&cks up. It makes him sound like an idiot. He is a DIRECTOR mind you (although I think his role is changing soon, but not in relation to this and has no meaning on the rest of this post...anyhooo). Seriously!?!?!?

Two gems from this morning:

None of these issues is currently triaged

Or Jackie were appointed by Richard to represent PM

Really???

Ugh. I hate when people in high positions make stupid mistakes like that. It is right up there with people who type only with their two pointer fingers, yet have been working in corporate America for 30 plus years.

Ugh, bad grammar makes my teeth grind. But "none ... is" is actually correct.

Really? I would think since "issues" is plural it would be are.

Yeah, it's a REALLY common error. "Issues" is part of the prepositional phrase. "None" is the actual subject of the sentence and it's always singular. My mom was an English teacher.

Yeah, it's funny how many examples of proper grammar can sound wrong because of common usages.

Yup, Larissa is right. In Texas, we have a lot of slang in how we speak so teaching students how to write correctly is a PITA. If I had a dollar for every time my students wrote "ain't" or "y'all" in their journals, I could retire!

The other sentence is definitely wrong.

Did anyone else every have to diagram sentences in school?

Also, spell check doesn't actually check everything. Why do people think that's sufficient. Proofread your emails!!!

Agreed. I remember thinking it was annoying and useless at the time, but I bet that's why it's all so firmly ingrained in the back of my head.
