How much does a land survey cost?

We are putting an offer on a lot tomorrow and will be getting a survey.  About how much do they cost?

Re: How much does a land survey cost?

  • Ours was $500 - much more than I had expected!
  • It really depends on what all you are having done.  When we were finished we paid 2,000 ish.  We had to get our slope re-assessed though and that is included that price.  We were having about 3 acres of land surveyed.

Eeekkk!!  That's a lot!!!  Our lot is only 1.3 acres and looks fairly level.  Our agent gave us the name/number to a couple survey companies to call.

  • I think they had to make 2 or 3 trips by the time it was said and done.  We had to get slope information that our county had down incorrectly re-done.  I'm sure that had something to do with the cost.  The area where you live will also have something to do with it.

  • survey with iron rods/stakes put in the ground?

We paid $1000 - called several surveyors and that was the rate.  our property is  about 8000 sf.  the problem is that the original deeds went back to the civil war so there was a lot of research involved, and there were actually mistakes made in deed transfer throughout the generations - we ended up gaining some square footage.  regardless i couldn't get it cheaper anywhere else so... it is what it is. :
