so dh and I are forgoing Christmas with everyone this year - we are going to finally have some " us " time, plus we are going to TTC in January - so I guess its a last hurrah !
either way - we are looking for a cabin/hotel near by or in WV -- I'd love to find something with a hot tub outside - I looked at Great Wolf Lodge most of their stuff is for 4+ people and I really haven't figured out how to navigate Snowshoe/Whitetail website.
we really aren't winter sports people ( neither of us have ever been skiing ) - we really just want a place in the mountains at Christmas.
fwiw - we did look at Gatlinburg, but its 8 hours and we'd love something 4 hours or less.
Re: near by cabin/lodge at Christmas
I might look at homeaway.com or vbro.com for cabin rentals.
Good for you for ditching the family and enjoying some couple time. Sounds wonderfully relaxing.
Canaan Valley, WV has a lot of cabin options. We like staying on Old Timberline Mountain because it gives you another access point to Dolly Sods Wilderness for hiking. It's a gated community and if you're interested in Canaan Valley, I can look up the names of the cabins we've stayed in and enjoyed.
Best of Canaan is a great realty company. We've used them several times.
Deep Creek Lake might be nice as well. I can't remember the website but there was one that listed rentals there.
We stayed at Brookside cabins in Shenandoah for NYE a few years ago and it was lovely. We actually stayed at a cabin that we a stand alone a few miles from there other ones. That was AWESOME! http://www.brooksidecabins.com/
