dangerously delicious pies?
what do you/did you think of them??
Re: dangerously delicious pies?
i was not impressed.
there used to be this place down by where amber lives that made the best pies ever
Which ones have you had? The two I had were honestly crap. I don't mind spending big $$$ on food, but if I do, it had best be better than what I could make in my kitchen. And my apple pie kicked that apple pies asss.
I won a gift certificate a few years ago and got a mixed berry pie, which was good enough, but not awesome. I bought a groupon earlier this year and plan on trying something else, based on the replies, not apple! So I guess I think that they're decent, but not worth the $25-30 that they charge.
I've had the berger cookie pie and I thought it was fabulous - very rich, so a small slice was enough - but I loved it.
However, I am now officially thrilled their Fed Hill location closed bc a Grilled Cheese Co. is going in there, yay!
It's called the Baltimore Bomb and it is REALLY good. I made it at home for a fraction of the price and it's pretty comparable, but not exactly the same. The Chocolate Chess pie is also really good.
Can you share the recipe to make it at home?
Sure!
Baltimore Bomb Pie (re-creation)
Pie Crust
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup water
Directions
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in water until mixture forms a ball. Divide dough in half, and shape into balls. Wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 10 or so minutes.
Roll out dough on a floured counter. Don't over work it. Use as directed in pie recipe.
Chess Filling
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 eggs
1 tablespoon cornmeal
1/4 cup evaporated milk
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
Appx 1 box broken up Berger cookies
Directions
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F
In a large bowl, mix the butter, sugar and vanilla together. Mix in the eggs, then stir in the cornmeal, evaporated milk and vinegar until smooth.
Put 5-6 broken Berger cookies in bottom of pie crust, then pour Chess mixture over the top.
Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce heat to 300 degrees F and bake for 40-50 minutes, until Chess is firmly set. Allow to cool.
I had the baltimore one, I had a berry one and my absolute freakin favorite is the lemon chess...OMG. Funny thing is, I'm not a pie person, i don't even eat pie at Thanksgiving...so I'm surprised that I like them so much. I will say each time my husband and I split a single piece...so we to us it wasn't a huge pocket gouge and we only had a half a piece so maybe we cherished it more.
