Popular, it's all about popuuuuular
You know sometimes I feel like People never get over that Jr. High need for popularity. Am I misguided to think that after at least after high school there was a chance to leave this notion of "popularity" and exclusivity/ cliqueishness behind? Especially in a work environment ? Or is social status always just something we're programmed for ?

we're totally programmed for it. One of the reasons reality shows are so popular is because we like to gossip about people we know, but we don't all live in villages where everyone knows everyone anymore, so people all watch the same shows and then talk about the people as though they know them.
It's more obvious in school because a) it's a total fishbowl and b) you're forced to be together every day for the better part of a year.
It doesn't go away, we just interact with smaller and smaller groups of people after high school so it feels like it's not as prolific, but it is.
I have heard this before too, re: educators/school politics.
It exists in my small office, too. Bummer.
Yeah, in my office I see it.
Oh, and thanks...now I have the song stuck in my head from WICKED. Now I need to listen to the soundtrack on my iPod.
