I've decided to get a glider even though DH thinks we should just grab one of the umpteen rockers at the ILs house. Thankfully, my mom totally understands my desire to not spend nights nursing in a piece of furniture that spent the last 5 years in the garage and has offered to buy/help buy the glider. So what do you ladies recommend? We can't afford the fancy schmancy ones, but would still like to get a decent glider etc. TIA!

Sorry to butt in. Do you use it often? We have a recliner in the living room and a regular ole rocking chair in Nolan's room. I'm debating getting a glider too, but I don't know how often it will get used if it's in a bedroom (as opposed to the LR).

Tiff--I've used it every day of her life (well, when we're not out of town, LOL).
A part of her bedtime routine (for naps and nighttime) has always been to sit in the glider and nurse, read a book, and/or just snuggle/rock for a few minutes.

I have a glider (and Tiff, I use mine EVERY day!). I would strongly reccomend going to Babies R Us and trying them out. That way you can make sure they are comfortable for you (arm height is good, back is tall enough, etc.). You could potentially spend MANY hours in the glider, and you want to make sure it's comfy for you!
When Taryn was born, my grandparents surprised me with a glider so I wasn't able to pick one out or test them out. Anyway, they got one from WalMart and while I don't think it received great reviews in Baby Bargains, it has held up extremely well and is plenty comfortable. I don't use it so often anymore, but used it quite often when she was littler. It's currently in Tessa's room, so I'll have it for nursing her and what not.
Oh, and I think they're around $150? Under $200 for sure.

We have one, the brand is called, Best. We spend about $500 for the glider and rocking stool. I don't know how much you want to spend specifically, but it's SO comfortable. Price included choosing our wood/finish and fabric. We ordered it from a speciality childrens store. The brand is rated really well with Baby Bargains, and just about everyone in my family who has a baby has a Best chair, everyone loves them, and have stood up really well over time. When company is over (at my parents house), that chair (which is in the office and not a frequently used room) is always in use!
I think Baby Bargains also recommends Dutailier brand. Not sure if they are more or less expensive than Best.

I, too, have a Shermag one from BRU and love it. Now that I'm back in school, I don't use it everyday, but it gets used often throughout the week. In the summer, it was used daily as we would rock to relax, cuddle, and read before naps.
It's even comfortable enough to sleep on for a couple hours (but no more than that).
Same. We use it during story time, nursing morning and night. Love our Shermag glider

That's the one I have too!
So, a big +1 on trying out chairs and seeing what's comfortable to you.

We have the Newco Serenity swivel glider and ottoman from BRU. It's one of the upholstered chair-looking ones.
No baby yet, but I've tested out the glider and could honestly fall asleep in that thing. It's so darn comfy! I love it!
you are totally welcome!! I think figuring out all this baby stuff is just freakin' hard!
