Anyone here from that area? My son got a promotion and is going onto mgmt training there and has to report by the 10th. I have LOTS of questions if anyone has a few moments.
1. What is a good place to live and not a totally crappy neighborhood?
2. any apartment complexes they should steer away from?
3. what is daycare like in that area? recommendations??
4. Tiff will need to look for a job. She is currently doing housekeeping at a hotel but has previously worked at a nursing home as an aid and she would like to get back into that. any recommendations there?
ANY information would be helpful!! Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
a nervous mommy and grandma! ![]()
Re: St Cloud ladies??
I'm not sure about daycare since I don't have kids. There are tons of in home day care options in Sauk Rapids though.
Plenty of options for nursing assistant work. If she wants nursing home I'd probably suggest St. Bens. Otherwise if she can, shoot for the St. Cloud Hospital.
I haven't lived in SC in awhile (not since starting college in '95), but Andy and I grew up there.
1. For apartments, stay away from anything near the St. Cloud State campus. They're crappy and full of loud drunk kids.
In general, the whole St. Cloud area seems more crappy than when I lived there. I'm not sure if the area has really changed, or if it's my perspective that has changed.
In any case, Waite Park has some pretty nice places and is more centrally located than Sauk Rapids or Sartell. If they plan to stay awhile, the Sauk Rapids or Sartell school districts are much better than St. Cloud (Waite Park residents go to St. Cloud schools). So many St. Cloud residents were sending their kids to school in Sauk Rapids or Sartell than they are now closed to open enrollment and you can only attend school in Sauk Rapids or Sartell if you actually live within that school district. St. Cloud schools have gone downhill a ton in recent years, they're very different from when I grew up there. I have a few friends who teach there. It's a very different demographic than it used to be ... the elementary school I went to in the 80's now has 75% of students coming from "low income" households, which means the tax base has changed greatly and school funding has been cut a lot.
3. I don't have a ton of daycare info, but I have an old high school friend who has been doing daycare in her home for 12 years. She's really great. If you want me to pass along her info, let me know. I do know that daycare is a lot cheaper in St. Cloud than in the Twin Cities!
4. If she's interested in working at a nursing home/assisted living, my grandma lives at a place in Waite Park called Good Shepherd. They have senior apartments, assisted living, and a nursing home all next to each other. My grandma is just in the senior apartments but will soon be moving to assisted living (she's 93). Their staff is really great, my family has been really happy with the service and care my grandma has received there. It seems to be a great facility. The nursing home at St. Ben's is also good, Andy's grandma was there. Another one to check into is Country Manor, it's an assisted living/nursing home in Sauk Rapids. My mom used to volunteer there years ago.
