Best price for fleece?

I need to make some fleece liners asap for E's diapers.  Which local store has the best prices for fleece?  Are there different thicknesses?

Also, how much fleece would I need to make one of those tie blankets?  Our dog is obsessed with one that he brought from his previous family.  It's a freaking Bratz doll fabric and is way too big.  I'd like to make him a couple so I can easily transition him to a new blanket and have a spare or two while it's in the wash.

Re: Best price for fleece?

  • not sure who would have the best price right now since i haven't been to any of the stores lately but no matter what, it will hardly cost you anything to cut some fleece into liners. I did it. Super cheap too when you can get it at 50% off and usually JoAnn's runs a sale like that. i think i got an email about it being on sale now too!

Too bad my dog's scent (and hair!) is all over the bed I made for him. It was a tie bed and for some reason he would rather sleep on the floor :(

  • I would avoid Hobby Lobby, their fleece is always more expensive than Hancock or JoAnn.  You can search either of their sites and see what is on sale.  There are different thicknesses and qualities of the fleece, but I never know which is which until I see them side by side.

Fleece is typically around 60" wide, and you can get it in any length you want.  I'd just measure out what size you want.  A yard is 36", so you could make a 60"x36" tie blanket with two yards of fleece.  That is assuming you want two different fabrics to tie together.  You could do it with just one yard and just tie knots.  If you want to make a smaller blanket, like 30" square, you could do that, doubled up, with one yard of fabric.  Otherwise, you could make two 30" square blankets that are single thickness with one yard.  Does this make sense??

  • I actually found a really great deal on fleece at Hobby Lobby. I found a white remnant in the clearance section. It was close to a yard and only cost $3.50. I was able to make 30 liners from it.
