Hello lovely running ladies..
1) How did last week go?
2) Running plan for this week?
3) Ask your own question
Re: Runners check in
1) Last week went ok.. I got 2 runs in. I've decided that trying to run twice on a weekend these days is too much, so I need to shift back to weekday workouts. We'll see how my new schedule works.
2) I plan to run M/W/F/S (3,4.5,3,4.5). I think my days of 6 mile runs are gone now
I really miss the distance but its taking me longer to run 4.5. I'm still running though, so I'll just hang on and enjoy it while I can. I'm waiting for the "you are pregnant" running stares.. that will happen probably in about 4 weeks as I get more obviously pregnant.
3) No real questions from me. I do miss the half distance, so I'm jealous of all you running your fall half marathons. I hope to have my next race in April.. but probably not a half even though I love the SC Half.

Last week was good. Ran 4 miles last Friday and then had my 5K race. Second one in 6 months. I did not PR. I am bummed but I did really good considering my last race was in March.
This week, I need to train for hills. I am running the Bridge to Bridge on 10/2 (same day as RnR) and I hear the last 1/2 mile is all hill.
Usually I run the LG Creek Trail near Lexington Res. since that has the HUGE hill.
I have found out that Gu really works for me when running long distance. The sport beans or shot blocks do not cut it. Its weird. Oh and chewing gum works when having dry mouth.
For those who have had Gu-what is your favorite flavor? I love the Vanilla and I hear they will come out with a PB flavor early next year.-that should be interesting
Oh, I do have a question. I got new shoes last Friday and I have a race in 2 weeks. Do you think if I break them in the next two weeks, they will be ok to use in my race? Is it too soon?
I don't know anything about the Bridge to Bridge, but I've found with hills if I run sort of on my toes and basically lean forward like I'm running with my boobs going up hill it's a LOT easier to tackle a hill! Of course, if it's a major hill that might not work too well, but give it a try with training. Also I think 2 weeks would be fine for your shoes! GL!
I like plain and vanilla flavored gu; nothing else. The vanilla can sometimes taste like liquified cake frosting. The only shot blocks I tend to go for are the margarita w/salt (they are good), or berry flavor of some sort. And regarding your shoes, I think if you use them on a few runs over the course of 2 weeks before your race you should be okay.
My running - last week we were in Disneyland so I ran Tuesday in the AM and this past Sunday. The hot weather when I get home is getting old and by the time it cools off, it's 7pm and I don't want to eat dinner at 830pm so I have just started walking the dog at night until it cools off more. I'm planning on W/F/S/Su with Sunday being a trail run with a running group.
IUI #1 10/12/11 (Bravelle + HCG + Prometrium & acupuncture) = 10/26 BFP! Beta #1=250, Beta #2= 615. 1st u/s 11/8.
Great job on your race! I know you'll PR next time.
I think your shoes will be fine. Just run at least 3 times a week. You'll know in a week if they aren't the right fit or if they will cause issues.

Great idea! I will try that w/my hill training next week.
thank you. Yes, I think I set my standards too high. Next time!
Perfect. I plan to run at least 2x this week so I should know if they are a good fit.
Ran in the inaugural NorCal Marathon in San Jose--was very impressed with the organization of the event given that it was the first one...good tech tees and a very flat course. I wish the course would have been more scenic, but maybe that is just downtown San Jose? I am not very familiar with the area and did the Half Marathon because it was on Groupon
I didn't PR, but was only one minute behind my PR, so I am satisfied.
This week I am taking it easy with the runs, but starting next week I am getting ready for the U.S. Half in San Francisco in November.
My favorite Gu's are the ones with caffeine...chocolate and some sort of coffee flavor (espresso? mocha? I can't remember). For non-caffeinated, I like the mint chocolate. Peanut Butter sounds interesting!
Question: Has anyone done the US Half before? Is it as hilly as I am thinking?
Oh, and I am doing a relay for the California International Marathon. Has anyone done a marathon relay before? Opinions?
TIA!
I have not done the US Half, but I have friends that did it last year. They said the beginning was very challenging with the hills. I think it also poured last year.. and they were so wet. Sounds fun?
I ran CIM, but didn't do the relay. Its a great course. The year I ran it was freezing though.. but it was a fluke.

2) Running plan for this week? Did 5.5 yesterday. Another 5.5 tonite (if I'm feeling better), and 5 tomorrow. My last long training run this coming Saturday. 12 miles total. Race day is 10/2!
3) Ask your own question
For those who have done the SJ RnR 1/2....how's the course? Flat? Some hills? If hills-rolling or sporadic hills?
The SJ course is flat, I think somewhere in the middle of the distance is a slight dip in the road because you go under an overpass.
IUI #1 10/12/11 (Bravelle + HCG + Prometrium & acupuncture) = 10/26 BFP! Beta #1=250, Beta #2= 615. 1st u/s 11/8.
Yup. I think that is around mile 7 or 8 when that happens. Other than that, it is flat. I loved it!!
This is music to my ears! I ran the SF 1/2 summer 2010 and clearly that was hilly. I haven't really been training hills, so a flat course is just what I was hoping for! A little terrain is NBD....thanks for the info, ladies!
