Those who stream TV/movies:

I am so behind the times with all this technology and it really makes me feel old!  Anywho, we're finally getting high-speed, wireless 'net (I know!!) at home and because we have both Netflix and a Wii, are planning on streaming.

BUT, I know there are other options out there, too, and especially with the chaos that is Netflix right now, would like to look at other options.

Do you stream?  With what device and with what company?  Pros, cons, costs, whatever are all appreciated!

Re: Those who stream TV/movies:

  • We stream netflix through our LG television. Prior to that, we were streaming through our PS3.

We actually have the lowest internet speed through Cox and it works fine.

  • We also stream through the ps3.....it has been so easy!

We also have the lowest speed internet through cox and have had no issues.

If you get netflix......make sure you watch "Switched at Birth"....it is an abc family tv series....I was hooked.  ;)

  • Thanks for telling me about the speed!  Do you know, by chance, what speed that is?  We don't get Cox here but are currently debating the speed needed.  Our options are (through this company) 3, 5 and 10 mbps.
  • I stream Netflix, but there are a few other options. I sometimes rent movies from Amazon Instant.  You can enroll in Amazon Prime (I think that's what it's called) and it would be similar to Netflix.  There is also Hulu+ (subscription required).

We were on the lowest level too, 1 MG for like $20/month and they told us we needed to upgrade to the $50/month to run Netflix...so if this isn't true, I'm downgrading again!!!

We bought Apple TV but it didn't have the capability to surf the net, so we took it back and got a Logitec Review, or Google TV, and we are doing Netflix through that.

  • Jennie--we have the 3 mbps package

    Shannon-the above is $36.99/month

  • I use Apple TV and we stream Netflix off of it, I also ripped our movies to a drive (still in the process I guess) so I can access everything through iTunes. I also use it to play music from iTunes over our surround sound. We bought the extra innings package to catch baseball on it and you can rent movies from iTunes over it as well. I'll use it to watch YouTube Zumba videos when I workout at home.

I don't pay the monthly fee for a DVR (we actually haven't had cable for about 5 years) and use eyeTV to record shows and it automatically converts them so that they can play on the AppleTV.

We're on the 15mbps plan, not necessarily because of the speed but because of the limitation on the amount of data. That said though, I stream movies nonstop throughout the day most days while I edit and do computer work. I would ask though what the limitations are.
  • We use netflix and stream it through wii or our i-pod (wifi) or our computer.

    LOVE IT!

I've watched the available seasons of Mad Men, Weeds and am currently on Army Wives on the i-pod while nursing Ian in the rocking chair upstairs.  I wish we would have had it for all the nights I used to spend rocking Elsie.

  • We have a mac mini hooked up to our TV and we have lots of different ways that we get our television. Netflix, hulu (no subscription), mtv.com, comedycentral.com. I have a few others (a lot actually) that I can to you too. We absolutely do NOT miss having cable. We get that, and more. Go for it.

ps - i have no clue what our internet connection is. I don't think Time Warner has options on that.
