ok - so dangerously delicious is not worth it - where are good pies??
DH is now a little fixated on pie and is devasted that the Nestie have put the kibosh on DD
Re: ok - so dangerously delicious is not worth it - where are good pies??
Are there any "Amish" (but really Mennonite) markets by you?
I hear they make awesome pies.
Granted I boycott them because of the whole puppy mill thing...
Pies aren't hard to make- you can buy decent frozen crusts (not the kind already in the pan, but the kind that is flat and folded- yes people get kicked off of Top Chef for this, but this is real life not Top Chef) and making pie filling isn't hard.
I was going to say the Amish market. I think there is one in Laurel now (there was one in Burtonsville too, not sure if its still there).
My mom has gotten Amish market pies several times and the ones I have tried have been very tasty.
Mrs. Smith's makes an awesome turtle pie!!
There's a grocery store in Middle River but I don't think you want to drive all the way up there. I second Trader Joe's though. Their frozen desserts are all pretty good so I imagine that the pies would be too.

TJ's pies are good, but the level of goodness varies by the type, also they tend to be on the small side- which may or may not be a good thing.
WF pies are expensive- in July when it's "pie" month they are 9.99- I think they are $15+ regularly.
If you are open to frozen and single serve portions, you should buy the apple blossoms- http://www.traderjoesfan.com/Trader_Joes/chudleighs_apple_blossoms/details/
Sooooo good. we always put them in the oven, never the microwave, but you can. They are identical to a product sold by Omaha steaks for like $2.50 a piece regular price. They also sell them @ Sam's under the Chudleigh brand name, but then you are buying a ton of them and they aren't badly priced @ TJs
ditto Amish markets
Baughers in Westminster also makes pretty good pies (DH grabs the small ones when I haven't made any in a while
)

Another recommendation for Sunny Hill. We get our CSA from them and I bought a cameral apple walnut brown sugar pie during the beginning of the season and wow, the pie didn't last two days.
