Omg! Burnt popcorn...

I don't know how it happened. I popped it in the microwave (correct side up) and went down to the basement to do laundry. I came back up and there was smoke all in the kitchen! I could barely see any my eyes were watering. I managed to find DH's boxfan from the basement and set it up near the back door to pull all the smoke out, turned on every fan in the house, and opened the front door. (Can't open any windows, they're ancient and painted shut).

Tbh though, it's not the worst thing I've done to this kitchen. Once, I left my toaster oven on for 13 hours with latkes in them! That was 10x worse! Lol.

  • Yuck, that's horrible! We used our vacuum the other day and something is wrong with it because it smelt SO bad of burnt rubber. We couldn't get rid of the smell for hours, so gross.

  • I've done that before. It took DAYS for the smell to go away - and I totally scortched the inside of the microwave. It never went back to normal.
  • Boil some vinegar in the microwave, it will help the lingering smell!

And latkes for 13 hours? Omg. Hope you own a fire extinguisher!

Surprisingly nothing got set on fire, lol. The smell went away in about three days. I just kept the doors open when I was at home, and febreezed it often.

  • I fell asleep while cooking popcorn on the STOVE. The smoke alarm woke me up and brought H in from the garage. There was smoke everywhere, it took us awhile to stop gagging once we got outside. After he caught his breath, H went back in to open every window and turn on every fan. It took awhile but eventually the smoke cleared, took a few more days for the smell to clear. I didn't make popcorn on the stove for awhile after that.Embarrassed

I tried that once and all it did was make my apartment smell like vinegar :-/. Actually, I just microwaved the vinegar thinking that's how you did it. How are you actually supposed to do it?

Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”
