am I an overly sensitive ex-pat?
Someone I know posted this on their facebook wall and it slightly angers me. Am I being overly sensitive as an ex-pat?
The Pentagon announced today the formation of a new 500-man elite fighting unit called the US Redneck Special Forces (USRSF). These southern boys will be dropped in Afghanistan knowing only these facts about terrorists: 1.The season opened today. 2.There is no limit. 3.They taste just like chicken. 4.They don't like pick-ups, country music or Jesus. 5.They are directly responsible for the death of Dale Earnhardt. The Pentagon expects the problem in Afghanistan to be over by Monday.
Re: am I an overly sensitive ex-pat?
I don't see what this has to do with being an expat. People are just idiots and if anything, it makes them look ill-educated.
Eye roll. I hate stupid sh!t like that... a) not funny and b) offensive on several levels-- in no particular order: not all rednecks are southern and not all southerns are rednecks, the hostilities in Afghanistan really aren't particularly funny (open season and "no limits"... that's really classy and respectful of human life).
I get that it's intended as a joke, but I just don't find the subject particularly funny. Whether you support or oppose the effort, the collective loss of life and quagmire like scenario is pretty sad/depressing, IMO. So not really a great start of a joke.
Welcome Home!
yeah.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
Yeah, that sucks! It's like when people say to your face why they think America sucks, then smile and say "No offence."
Blech.
This bothers me, not only as an expat, but as a member of the military. Military are NOT all rednecks, and we do not all want open season on the people of Afghanistan. I've met some Afghanis who are the nicest, most sincere people, and just want a life of peace for their kids. As a member of the armed forces, that is something that I desperately want to be able to give them.
what pisses me off even more is that many of my other friends "like" buttoned it!
Time to do a friend spring cleaning.
This.
Adding the "taste like chicken" part as the height of disgusting and disrespectful to an entire nation of people.
You are not overly sensitive. That is just offensive on so many levels.
Ditto PP who mentioned people who let you know that they think America is horrible, "no offense". Um, good, stay put in your own country then? IDK. I never know how to respond to that cleverly.

Yeah, no. Definitely not over-sensitive. That's just terrible.
