Former student incarcerated
Yeah, just found out a kid I had in 3rd grade (is now in 7th) was just arrested. Apparently the kid made a death threat against a gang - listed date, time, how etc.
My heart breaks for this kid. I want to be the "fixxer" and fix it but I can't. It's probably better that he's in juvy right now on account that the gang could retaliate. Just a kid with ADHD.....

No, the gang is definitely not the victim. I don't know if there were any precipitating events. Basically he said he was going to kill two specific kids in a gang with a shotgun. He listed the place and time. Because it was a death threat, they arrested him.
I truthfully do not think this child would have gone through with it. He's all talk. They did search his house and found no gun. With that being said, they went through with the arrest because we are a no tolerance district and I think part of it may have been his safety. The gang could retaliate against him for making a death threat.
I really don't know anything. I heard from another teacher at the middle school he's at. It just makes me sad because he's got no dad in his life. Mom is doing the best she can. He had some serious anger issues in my class but I built a rapport with him and we worked past it. Then he moved and here we are 4 years later...

Yup. I kind of fear being a diagnostician on a middle or high school level for this every reason. We don't have to deal with a lot of that stuff on an elementary campus - at least not to that level.
