Years ago, DH hyperextended his knee during a rugby game. He never had anything done about it. About a year ago, it started bothering him during games, so he started taping his knee for every game...and then for every practice. He had it looked at this spring, and the doctor said it was really up to him to decide whether he wanted to have it fixed or just deal with it.
DH spent the summer seeing how it would feel if he simply didn't play rugby. It was fine most of the summer. Now that he's been in rugby practice for a few weeks...it's started bothering him. And when we went on a hike last week, it bothered him then, too. So he called today.
He has an appointment for an MRI on October 3rd (which they've already done before), and he'll schedule the surgery after they go over those results. Most likely, he'll do it at the end of October. Hopefully DH's knee will feel like new...after he gets a new ligament from a cadaver!

Re: DH will likely have knee surgery
It's his PCL, whatever that is.
And yes, he tore it at some point.
