If you had a G.R. wedding......
...can you recommend your photographer and venue? My friend is getting married and just started the planning stages. I am MoH, but live on the east side. She is overwhelmed, and I can't be as useful as I would like being 2.5 hours away.
Help!

Ditto, Des&Molly.
I would also recommend this one: http://www.studiobhb.com.
I have all my vendor reviews at the bottom of this page. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
For venue what is she looking for? How many people? Budget range? What type of setting, Downtown? Hotel banquet room? something with a pretty view, a place that you can bring in your own caterer?
Have her check out this http://www.experiencegr.com/meetings/

Quail Ridge golf club.
I would HIGHLY recommend both. I loved them!
Thank you all so much for answering. I guess I should give a few more details.
Downtown setting preferably with a view. Urban feel.
Guest list is around 250.
Budget. Vague, but up to 35-40k range.
They are willing to majorly splurge on a great venue and good photographer. These are the most important two aspects.
October/Fall wedding.
I went to a wedding at the BOB and was VERY impressed with the catering staff. It was held on the 3rd floor, not Eve.
Western Michigan University has a downtown campus and they rent their facility. It is in an old restored building. However, she would have to check on capacity.
In doing a search on the website I provided it also comes up with GVSU's Eberhard Center, JW Marriott ($$$), San Chez, MoJos's Piano bar (who knew??) http://www.mojospianobar.com/vip_room/index.html
There is the Grand Rapids Art Musuem, but it didn't come up when I entered 250 for dinner style event.
I had my wedding and reception at the Amway Grand. No view of the city from inside, but pretty inside. What about the JW Marriott? Very hip.
Jen Kroll Photograpy is who I used.
GL!

A friend of mine had her wedding ceremony at St Cecilia Music Center and that was very pretty. Her wedding was small, but I think they have a variety of rooms for various size parties.
I think they also do receptions, but I've never been to one there.
