Getting rid of sink drain smell

Our kitchen sink doesn't have a garbage disposal, but I do know sometimes small pieces of food get down there. But sometimes even after I clean the whole sink & run really hot water down the drain, there is still a smell. Is there anything that you can put down the drain to help with that?

I will sometimes boil a kettle (or a pot) of water and pour that down the sink to take care of any bacteria that might be hiding. I've also just poured baking soda in the drain and followed it with vinegar for a foaming effect. You can then rinse that with water if the vinegar smell remains.

When I boil pasta, I dump the pasta water down the drain while it's still boiling hot.

Anytime I crack eggs, the shells go through the disposal. I also put lemon or lime rinds (is that the right term?) through it. It cleans and deodorizes! I try to do it at least once a month. Just quarter in and squeeze the juice in the drain then run the water with it on.

Actually, i just read that putting egg shells into the disposal is bad! (was reading up since i've never owned one...)

"egg shells should not be put in the disposal as they turn into a sand-like substance that clogs piping."

Oh. I was just always told it was good for them, like the grit cleans the blade well. My mom has been doing it in hers for years, and never had a problem. Guess I'll let her know.
