When was the last time you pulled an all nighter?
Re: QOTD - late edition
I think the last time I really stayed up all night, without getting even a little bit of sleep, was probably 9-10 years ago when I was in law school. I love my sleep and I don't give it up easily!
Stand up for something you believe in.

Grad school, I think. And I graduated in 2001, so a long time ago.
I came dangerously close a few times when H was in grad school a couple of years ago. He is a technological luddite, so I was frequently called out of bed for computer assistance. You know what's not fun? When your stressed out husband wakes you up in the middle of the night to fix something on the computer for him. And then does it again a couple of hours later.
January 9, 2011. My water broke at 11 pm or so, and I checked into the hospital after midnight (pre-term labor) and by the time I got checked in and settled and set up, it was probably 2 or 3. Then I was too excited to sleep, so I was up until at least 5 or 6. I then slept on and off during the next 24 hours - it took 42 hours before LO was born.
I have had some nights that felt like all nighters when LO was a newborn and had his days and nights mixed up, but I am pretty sure I actually managed to sleep for at least a few minutes on most nights.

Morbid but honest? Christmas Eve/Day 2 years ago (miscarriage #2).
Before that was June 2008. I was leaving the next day for a huge conf. I was in charge of, super excited, mentally exhausted, and it literally took me till 6 am to pack. I just decided to make it an all nighter since I had an early flight and crashed early at the resort.
January 2010. I had to work an overnight task force shift at work after working all day, then had an event at noon the next day so I couldn't even sleep it off. It messed me up for days...
Before that, probably the slumber party for my 15th birthday...

The night DD was born. We were both so tired but we were pretty much up all night just staring in awe at DD as she soundly slept.
Before that- April 2007? Happened two times in a 4 day period. I was in Vegas for a friends bachelorette party. My flight got in late so I met up with everyone and we stayed out all night. Then on the way home- red eye was several hours late so I was awake because I was paranoid about missing my flight. I got no sleep on the flight home and by the time I got back here it was 9am. It took me several days to recover.
Mine was about 7 months ago. I got up at 5 for fitness, went to wkr and then to a happy hour. On the way home my dad called to say my mom had a heart attack and was in ER.
DH and I drove 15 hours straight to go back to WI. I should mention by the time we packed some luggage, got in the car with the dog it was going on 11 pm.
Somewhere around Pennsylvania I told DH (who was sleeping next to me) that I swear I saw a 15 foot pig looking at me on the road... yes this was my imagination but that's just how tired I was. I wanted to drive since that usually helps take my mind off things.
We got in town about 3pm, went to see my mom and then my FIL called to say MIL was in hospital as well (cancer) so we went to see them after visiting hrs for my mom was over and stayed there until 11pm. By then I had been up for 45 hrs straight and irritated, hungry and overall exhausted.

I just remembered the details of my last all nighter! It was indeed grad school, but it wasn't because of schoolwork. I got my grad degree from GW, and worked for them in res life while in school. I was in charge of 5 dorms, and it was during the really crazy IMF/World Bank protests in 2000.
GW closed down all of their dorms to any outsiders (seriously, my parents who were in town that weekend couldn't come in to one), and required someone at the front desk of each 24 hours a day. I didn't have enough staff to cover them my front desks, so I ended up having to take a whole bunch of shifts that resulted in me being up 48 hours straight. By the end, I was alternating between extreme tiredness, practically falling asleep, and ridiculous punchiness/zaniness. What a weird feeling that was.
A few weeks ago on the way back from Hawaii. We left at 12:45 p.m. Hawaii time, got to SFO at 9:00-something at night, then watched the sun rise from the plane over DC. I didn't sleep a wink on the plane. We stayed up the entire next day doing laundry and whatnot and made it until about 8:30 p.m. before calling it quits. (We both had to work the next day and didn't want to be groggy by sleeping through the day.)
Let me just say I'm glad hubz's days (nights?) of nightshift are over... his transition from day to night shift (he rotated) was ROUGH.

Sadly... it was just a few months ago. Can't remember the exact date, but I had to do a bunch of stuff for work. Boss wanted some stuff done pronto.
I can't remember if I was up *all* night, but if I got any sleep, it was only one or two hours.
Unless you count being up on and off with a sick kid, never. I've had some late nights out partying till the wee hours, but was always able to sleep it off.
DH accuses me of "hoarding" sleep.
Probably in college when we had to evacuate b/c of a hurricane & a bunch of us decided to drive home instead of camping out in the dungeon of the math building. We made the decision kind of too late & just decided to stay up & then caravan back home (we all lived in the same general area), so we just stayed up all night to beat rush hour traffic in 2 metro areas.
That was also the only time I've pulled an all-nighter. I don't function without sleep. (note: I wasn't driving in the above instance!)
