Appropriate suit?

Hi Ladies,

Posted on here the other day about having my first job interview in 5 years. I don't have a suit to wear so I went out shopping last night to try and find one. That being said, I work in human services so I don't have $300 to drop on a new suit.

I found one that looks nice but it is a 3/4 length sleeve jacket. I live in western NY so the temps are currently 60's-70's. My interview is next week. Is this inappropriate in terms of style or should I *really* try and find a traditional long sleeve one?

TIA!

Re: Appropriate suit?

  • I would stick with traditional. If you are looking for less expensive options, The Limited has a sale right now on suits. It's buy one get one free jackets, pants, skirts, dresses. So, you could get a jacket and skirt for just the price of the jacket, around $160.

Good luck on your interview! I have one next week, too.

  • I'm not in the "must wear a suit" category of interviews. So I think a 3/4 sleeve would be fine. That being said, if you're looking for an inexpensive option, Macy's is a great place to look. I often find full suits there for $69.99 or $79.99 from Calvin Klein, Anne Klein, Tahari, etc.

  • I am the traditional suit camp - do you have any outlets around you?  We also have a store called 'Frugal Fannies' that sells suits.

I think you can get a suit for @ $100 - I have had my suit for over 10 years - I got a style that won't go out of style - I just can't gain weight ;)

Good luck in your search and interview!!!

  • I agree about not having to spend that kind of $. Macy's, Lord and Taylor and JCP have suits on clearance or sale all of the time. I have also found some great suits at Marshall's but it's hit or miss.

    Good luck with your interview!

  • Thanks ladies!

So far I looked at JC Pennys, Lord and Taylor and Ann Taylor. The problem that I am having is that I need the suit separates because I have an hourglass shape. I am having an issue finding ones on sale. I plan on going to Macy's and The Limited this weekend to see if I can find something else.
