My MIL is getting a new car. The ILs are in their 70's and they want a car where the seats are not too low (like some of the sportier cars) and not too high (like an SUV). In otherwords, something easy for an older person to get in and out of.
My FIL has a Subaru Outback and they think the seat height and type is just about right in that car. When you get in, it's almost likes you are sitting in a regular chair which they like. However, MIL want's a car that is a bit more luxurious and it must have the option for heated seats.
Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has recommendations of models they should look at because they are hoping DH and I can give them recommendations of cars to check out. I've seen the Toyota Venza on the road which looks like it could work in terms of the height of the car but I've never actually sat in the seats. Any and all recommendations are welcome.
Re: Need car recommendations with easy to get in and out of seats
Have they looked at a Chevy HHR? We just bought one and seriously love it.
The height is about the same as a Subaru- we park right next to one, and it has a bunch of nice features that just make it comfortable- for example, movable arm rests that are actually at a reasonable height, excellent leg room in the back seat and an SUV-like trunk that allows us to haul anything we need without too much work. The back seats also completely fold down to allow even more room if you need it.
My aunt drives a Tahoe with leather heated seats, so I know Chevy offers the option on some cars- it would be worth checking in to for the HHR.
Stand up for something you believe in.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
I think a Toyota Avalon or Camry would fit what they're looking for.
You can get the outback in leather with heated seats. I know because we looked at it.
My car has the option to make the front seat pretty high - Audi A6. (I have the Avant, but if they don't need a station wagon then can get the sedan.) I LOVE my car.
Ditto an Avalon. Also, I just saw the Kia Optima today in our parking garage. I don't know anything about it other than it's a nice looking car.
We have a Venza and it seems pretty easy for my FIL and parents to get in/out of. I really like riding in it.
My parents drive a CRV and it's a similar height. There might be a nicer version than my parents' with heated seats. We saw an older couple with a Scion xB this weekend (looks like the Cube car with the hamster commercials). Those boxy car things are marketed to hip 20 somethings, but they're the perfect height for parents IMO. Too bad they don't have the more luxury interior that would really sell to an older crowd.
I think the new Highlanders are lower than the traditional SUVs plus they have heated seats.
Not sure what they are looking to spend but I love my Volvo S60 (heated and cooled seats). With DHs back issues it is definitely easier for him to get out of my car than some other sedans. (Mine is several years old but the ones I have seen recently look higher than mine).
Even the older ones are. We have a 2008 model and it's very easy to get in and out without the feeling that you're climbing. (And I'm 5'3") The Highlander is an SUV but built on the Camry frame I believe so it's lower to the ground. And we have heated seats. I use mine all the time in the winter.
