POLL: What makes you feel old?
Twitter? Running into people you once babysat who are now married? Younger siblings? Your kids?

Re: POLL: What makes you feel old?
The word "mortgage," and the fact that I have one, makes me feel old.
Also (and this is hard to explain), whenever I see a current celebrity in their younger years, it makes me think of how old I was whenever that movie came out, how old that celebrity looks now, and how much time has passed. Like, I saw Brad Pitt in Meet Joe Black the other day, and it made me realize how old I am/ how much time has passed.

That makes me feel like a dinosaur. For reals.
That my little brother is turning 21 next month, and that not long after that I'll be a mother of two. That scares me.
Also, my nephew got some Transformers for his birthday and I was talking with my brother about his old Transformers. I asked if he remembered the one that was also a tape player. My nephew looks all confused during this conversation. I felt really old at that moment.
Totally this!
Oh god now I feel all awkward having used it and maybe not fully understanding them because I am old. Kind of like hearing your parents try to use some new "it" word (I remember being in HS and my Mom asking for the "deets" about my night and cringing).
Mine are mostly work related at the moment....
The kids that were freshmen the first year I started teaching are graduating from college this year.
I'm more than twice as old as the freshmen this year.
I have kids in class who I used to baby-sit for when they were babies (meaning- I've changed your diaper before & now you owe me homework)
All so weird.
Or how about figuring out the year in which Jane and Zac will graduate high school ... ahem ... 2027/2028!!
If that doesn't make you feel old.
And then what age you will be then .... 40, what?? Excuse me!!!
DH and I have this converstation all of the time! Everytime we are sitting there watching a movie on TV we guess what year (and we always say something like, 2001) and then press the info button to scream out, "1993!!! What!? No Way!?"
For example.
Jurassic Park, Sandlot, Mrs. Doubtfire, Sleepless in Seattle - 1993
Sounded to me like you knew what you were talking about. I never asked anyone or gave it a second thought...
Um. 51. /dead

16 read! my read shelf:
When I realize that kids I babysat are now in college. Or when professional athletes "retire" and they are my age or a year older than I am.
ETA: Or when a song I like pops up on a classic station... and not the "music of today" stations.
The movie thing definitely.
I also think I'm stuck in the year 2000. Every time I hear something was done in that year I never think it was that long ago
Like I keep thinking my car is not old. It's a 2000, that's like last year OR twelve years ago.
I do this too. I'll look at a kid's birthdate and think that they aren't that old....then I do the math. Oh, you're 11? Right...
Seeing that the kids on my(college) rosters were born in 1993.
The 10th anniversary of 9/11. It means that I graduated from HS ten and started college 10 years ago.
My current students (freshmen) were born when I was in 6th/7th grade.

My little sister was born when I was a senior in high school...and she's now in 8th grade (!) and will be getting her school permit (she can drive back and forth to school only) in January! How did this happen, and I can only imagine how much worse it will be when it's my own kids!
Mortgage and stuff like that doesn't make me feel old, but it does make me feel grown up.
Wow, driving in 8th grade?? I can't imagine any of our 8th graders at school driving! Scary.
Seeing the year movies/tv shows came out makes me feel old. When I think about all of the shows and movies that came out in the early 90s and realize that was 20 years ago, it makes me feel incredibly old!
Also, starting school this year and realizing that all of my students (except maybe 2 or 3) were born after I graduated high school totally freaked me out.
