What's everbody reading right now?

The Bronze Horseman.

So freaking good! I think books with sexual tension make me fly through them b/c I just want it to happen already. Those are my deep literary thoughts for the day.

  • I am reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels...I am on book 4 or 5 I think...

Ummm, I've been reading Amish romances like there is no tomorrow. . . the only thing that sucks terribly about them is the sexual tension always fades to black. Come on already! Who cares if God is watching. LOL!

DUDE, that's like book blue balls. I think that would upset me.

This is a perfect example of why I enjoy reading trashy romance novels by Stephanie Laurens.  They offer a mystery (admittedly, predictable) and they offer lots of sexual banter.  Sometimes I am just in the mood to read some fluff.

  • Just finished Bossypants by Tina Fey, and have the first 4 Game of Thrones books sitting on my dresser. I started the first one but it didn't really hold my attention. I am going to give it another try before I give up completely.

  • I just finished another random Pixel of Ink freebie that was really really good.  I love trying out random free books - I've had more hits than misses.

It's a memoir called End of Boys by Peter Brown Hoffmeister.  From an Amazon review that describes it well..."End of Boys is the gripping story of a sad, twisted childhood, and the struggle of a gifted young boy to emerge, whole, from it--all the more disturbing, powerful and, ultimately, uplifting because it's true.

  • Just finished Coast Road by Barbara Delinsky (GOOD!), so trying to decide what to start next.

  • Right now I'm simultaneously reading:
    image
(On my Kindle, #6 in the Outlander series)

    and:

    image

(This book is about the natural gas industry, and specifically hydrofracking, which is a controversial method being used around the country in gas drilling.  This book is about Dimock, PA and the effects the industry has had on their living environment.  It's particularly heartbreaking to me, as the area I live in is right in the middle of the Marcellus shale, and this is going on right in our backyards.  Defintely worth a read if you care about environmental issues.)

  • Just downloaded the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks from the library. My SIL does medical research with sickle cell disease, and she recommended it. Honestly, I'm not super excited about it (probably why I haven't started it yet), but I feel like once I get into it I'll enjoy it, and I should read it.

I just finished The Help and it was so. good. Could not put it down.

I'm also on the waiting list for Hunger Games and One Day e-books through the library.

  • Mockingjay of the hunger games series. But I am distracted with making a halloween costume.
  • I'm reading like 5 books at once. The Shack, Dragonfly in Amber, Firefly Lane and also a book on the Royals.

  • Just finished The Help, and started some ereader freebie that I can't even remember the name of.

I read this book several months ago. It was interesting from a science perspective, and also interesting reading the story of the family going through all of this. It was a little dry in spots, but overall I enjoyed it. Definitely give it a try!

Loved both of those. Like pps, The Immortal Life was a little dry in parts, but so far its my favorite book I've read so far this year.

I'm currently reading Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close.

I literally have all of these in my kindle and read them all this year.  All are great - enjoy!  Now I know who to bug for book suggestions :)

'The Shack' had great imagery but in the end I didn't like the book as much as I'd hoped, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Agreed. Shocking that I agree with Trickey, I know.

Firefly Lane was an incredible book. I read that one years ago and love Kristin Hannah's writing style.

  • MrsJaay, The Bronze Horseman is next on my list (thanks to your raving reviews!). Right now I'm reading A Clash of Kings...I'm addicted to this series.
  • A Discovery of Witches. It's feeling a little Twilightish to me but I'm only 100 pages in.

That's our book club pick this month! Sounds like we could have a small discussion here since a few of you guys have read it.

I really liked Firefly Lane and I downloaded  another one of her books (Winter Gardens) but I haven't read it yet.

I also downloaded A Discovery of Witches but haven't read it yet. Coryswife - one of my friends loved this book so I'm holding out hope!

I am almost finished with A Bend in the Road.  I have really enjoyed it but I heart Nicholas Sparks:)

    Agreed, The Help was great.

I just finished The Language of Flowers (pretty good. I'd give it an 8) for one book club and started The Hunger Games for another book club.
