Trickey re: The Shack

I guess I'm about 90% through the book but it has taken me a long time. It came highly recommended by a friend, and I usually sail through a good read. I was really into the beginning, just the suspense of what was going to happen and stuff, but ever since he arrived back at the shack it's been a bit slow for me. I totally agree about the imagery, great scenery. Honestly, I am a religious person and all and I love how its attempting to make some of that relateable, but at times it's a bit philosophical for me. I'll read a part and then have to re-read it again because I'm like, huh? I guess you have to be "in the mood" to read a book like this, and I'm just not. It's definitely made me think about some things though, and spun some stuff around in my head, which is a good thing.

Re: Trickey re: The Shack

  • I had all of the same feelings you did. It came highly recommended to me by a family member, one who is only 18 too. You explained it perfectly, in the beginning I was very wrapped up in the book, just trying to figure out what was going to happen and I didn't expect it to turn as philosophical as it did. I was somewhat taken aback by the amount of religious stress that was put into the book, I love a good Christian novel (Redeeming Love is my all time favorite book) but this one lost me so often in thought. My head would dive into this beautiful atmosphere the author painted but totally loose sight of following the message and have to go back to try to interpret what was meant with his whole Holy Trinity explination.

It was good, but in small doses. I think it'd be a great book to have on hand to read when you weren't in the mood to read what you've already started.

  • Well I'm glad we had the same issues with it. I was afraid I was just too dumb. lol
