Hey, does anyone here have seasonal affective disorder (SAD), or know of anyone who does? I grew up in Florida, moved to NC and was diagnosed with it in college, and am starting to have panic attacks worrying about the upcoming fall/winter here. Everyone here tells me it's really dark, gloomy, overcast, etc. I'm trying to figure out how to deal. Does anyone have suggestions?
Re: SAD
I don't know if I officially have SAD or not, but sometimes it sure feels like it does.
We got one of those alarm clock lamps that slowly lights up in the morning. It's not a "full-spectrum light", but it does at least help you feel like the morning is here.
I took up snowboarding to do something active in the winter time. If you have vacation time you might also want to use some to go somewhere sunny.
1st year anniversary in Victoria with a killer whale topiary!
I have SAD, but it's kind of gone away the longer I live here? I am getting more and more acclimatized to the weather here. And also, the last few winters, we've actually /had/ sun for large parts of it, even if they were just a day here and there.
My sister has SAD too and lives in Boston. She bought herself one of those alarm clock lamps that mimics a sunrise in your bedroom and said it sort of helped.

The PP suggestions of going some where sunny and warm (if you can) is a good one.
Costco sells the SAD therapy light boxes too. They have a few online, but I've seen a Phillips brand one in store.

I have this lamp: http://tinyurl.com/3gl4348
I feel a lot better when I use it consistently. I also have a dawn simulator from the same website. Good luck!
