Ethical/Moral choices

Today while taking my Statistics test I noticed that kid next to me was texting during the test.  I was not sure what he was texting.  After sitting to for a little bit thinking about (and being distracted while taking the test) I chose to tell the teacher.   Needless to say  I was shaking the last part of the test and just wanted to cry.  Why are these choices so hard?

  • Oh I'm sorry. That's a hard thing to do.

  • You did the right thing.

  • I forgot to add that. I think you did the right thing too.

  • I think you did the right thing and I would have done the same in your position. It's hard because we truly don't want to get people in trouble, but it's unfair to let someone get away with cheating when you have to work hard to do well. At least that's how I feel about it.

  • I agree with everyone else. You did the right thing. And shame on him for forcing you to make that decision!
  • LOL! I'm sorry, I have a huge smile on my face. You shouldn't feel upset about doing the right thing. He's lucky you didn't make a scene. I'm that annoying person who probably would have yelled at them during the test (I can't turn the teacher off in public Stick out tongue).

Ultimately, he made the choice to cheat and he got caught. That's on him, not you. What did your teacher do about the situation?

That's what I kept thinking, and as my husband said, I would have felt guilty all day if I didn't say anything.  I am not sure I left before this kid.  It is a huge lecture class.  I know they looked at the name on my test and up and the kid.
