OK, poll time. Money is tight but I like giving good gifts. I'm considering a wine Groupon as a Christmas gift for each of my sisters this year. Is that tacky? I know that they'd enjoy spending the money on some good new vino options, but I guess I'm just not sure about the whole gifting a coupon thing.
Thoughts?
Re: Groupon gifts?
We were given a Groupon for Canvas on Demand and I loved it. Granted, I asked for it, and even though I buy them for myself it was nice to get one for free as well. I guess if it's something your sisters would enjoy or have expressed interest in, I don't see anything wrong with it. Is it a deal where they would need to shell out some of their own money to use it?
Is it the sort of thing people in your family find tacky? I know that nobody in my family would find it tacky, but some other families may.
Mr. Sammy Dog
Between my MIL and SIL, we almost compete to see who can pay the cheapest for something. It's always, "look at XYZ, it's it great! And I only paid X amount for it!" I almost always try and look it up for cheaper, buy my MIL is amazing at store discounts.
So, I wouldn't consider it tacky. You save money, they get more...what's to complain about?
Ditto PP!
In my family, it wouldn't be an issue either. H & I actually got my dad a Livingsocial deal for Father's day, to a local nursery that he loves. He was so excited & went & spent it that weekend.
And I agree with Sue/Mike, she said it great! - You save money, they get more...what's to complain about?
Go for it! = )

Well - I went ahead with it. I like the idea of using the coupon in their honor but on the other hand, I want them to be able to branch out and try something new and different if they want to. So - they'll get it with a card under the tree this year!
Thanks for your feedback all! I don't feel so strange about it now that I know other people would think it was an OK gift.
