Ok, so we know I've basically decided I'm not coming back to my job.
All along I've been planning to just work til I go into labor. I think though that technically I can start my leave up to 14 days prior to my due date (maybe?). I'm not sure if/when/how I'd get paid.
I'm just starting to be really tired and also really trying to get as much work done and off my plate as possible. I'm thinking that having a firm date to be out might help me wrap everything up, transition smoothly, and enjoy the last week or two (or more or less) of my pregnancy. Obviously this would be a moot point if I go into labor early.
Anyway, I'm thinking of asking HR if I can just say that 10/21 is my last day (I'm due 10/27). I think I won't get paid anything until I deliver, but maybe not. Regardless, the amt of money we're talking about at this point probably won't make a big difference in the long term.
Re: BR - WWYD?
I don't know.
I think that sounds like a good plan.
Your leave/pay can start before your due date I think (maybe it depends on how everything is structured). I can request to leave up to 4 weeks prior to my due date (with a doctor's note) and would get paid immediately (first week would be PTO, then I'd be paid under my disability plan).
this is how C's was too (of course, she delivered two weeks earlier than we planned).
Ditto. Maybe you can play it by ear? Or, do half days?

Our maternity leave policy allows us to go out 2 weeks prior to your due date and it's treated as the beginning of STD. The first week has to be PTO and then STD kicks in until you deliver (no limit on payouts even if you deliver past your due date). Then, we get either 6 or 8 weeks of additional STD from the birth date depending on if you have a c-section or vaginal birth. I went out a week before my due date and was so glad I did. I did some serious nesting in between napping and at that point I slept on our couch b/c my hips hurt too bad to stay in our bad. I could've gone out a week sooner, but I didn't. I was miserable the last week of work from lack of sleep and being sore, but I think if I had stayed home I would've gotten bored and impatient with a full two weeks to wait out my due date.
That said, if money isn't an issue I think it's a no-brainer...go out when you want to on 10/21 and don't feel guilty about it!
