Official nestie beverage (and results of PSL poll)

In the poll below (the QOTD post), there are 4 PSL lovers and 17 haters so far. I'm surprised. I thought a ton of people on this board love the PSL. Is it just a very vocal minority?

I think we need a new official DC Nestie drink, because it's clearly not the PSL!  Any suggestions? I think the Sbux salted caramel mocha may be in the running (but it doesn't need to be a Sbux drink).

Re: Official nestie beverage (and results of PSL poll)

  • i think the official beverage of DC nesties just might be wine ;)

  • I am not a drinker but I'd have to agree that the official beverage is not coffee-based

  • Yeah, I'd have to go with wine as the official drink :P

I can't be the only one who thought PSLs were the best thing ever for a few years and then lost interest.  If we were doing one of those in/out lists, I think the salted caramel mocha would be taking the place of PSL for hype.  (But wine will never go out of style.)

    Ha!

I agree. SCM for hype. Wine for longevity and mass appeal.

Maybe we can find a way to make the SCM boozey?

(I think you can easily add Bailey's or Godiva to any coffee drink and vastly improve it.) (But I don't drink coffee so what do I know.)

Just the other day I was wondering how you could make a caramel apple cider boozey - what would be the best add in?  Suggestions? Maybe just straight up grain alcohol?

As far as fave winter drink with alcohol, I love the hot buttered rum recipe I found a few years ago:

    Hot Buttered Rum

    Adapted from an Emeril recipe.

    32oz bag Brown sugar
    1/4 cup honey
    2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
    2 tsp cinnamon
    1 tsp nutmeg
    1/4 tsp salt
    pinch of cloves

Blend together, form into log, wrap in saran wrap and put in fridge until firm. Cut into 24 pieces and individually wrap in saran wrap to keep in fridge.

Use one (or two if you have a sweet tooth like me) portion in a mug, add 1.5-3oz of rum (DH likes 3, I like 1.5) and pour boiling water up to top of mug - stir and enjoy.

  • For cider, we do Capt. Morgan. With whipped cream on top.
  • i really like bourbon for making cider boozy - i can post a recipe that my friend gave me tonight.

  • I do hot cider all the time with a maplejack liqueur that a distillery near my parent's house in upstate ny.  Awesome, awesome stuff.  Hot mulled cider with some of that is my go-to cold remedy.  It doesn't always work on the cold, but it makes me feel better!  Bourbon is great as well.
