cooking question

So, Sunday I am having my family over for my parents' anniversary - 7 people total.

I am making a veggie lasagna and going to serve sausage with it.  The lasagna would be enough for most families, but the men in my family have a hard time with meatless meals (my sister's bf eats more than anyone I ever met) and I got some great-looking sausage from the farmer's market.  How should I cook the sausage?  Do I keep is simple?  Our grill is busted, so oven or stovetop recs are needed.  Another caveat - everything needs to be gluten-free so that my mom isn't restricted.  I will probably do a basic green salad too and she wouldn't mind if I put some fresh bread out.  Do I need a starch?  Help - don't know why I am stuck on this...

Re: cooking question

  • I would cook the sausage in a pot with some of the same sauce from the lasagna.  If you're worried you won't have enough meat you could throw some meatballs in the pot with the sausage.

I think a nice big loaf of bread with a salad is fine to complete the meal.

    This this this!

  • Id keep it simple with salad and bread (perhaps find a gluten free variety for your mom just to be extra thoughtful). If you want to add more items onto the menu maybe something simple like antipasto, bruschetta or skewers/toothpicks of cherry tomato/mozzarella/basil. Also, dessert of course!! ;)

  • ditto shannon if its a red sauce lasagna.  if it is a white/cheese sauce veggie lasagna i would do some sausage and peppers broiled in the oven (pyrex dish, onions, sausage, peppers, bake or sausage on a grill pan on the stove).

i think the salad and bread is fine to round out the main course.  mozz, tomato, basil on a tooth pick is one of my favorite apps lately.

Okay, this is what I was thinking but wasn't sure if it would be a good combo...it's a white lasagna so I don't want to randomly add red gravy.  I will do sausage, peppers and onions on the stovetop, salad and bread.  My mom hasn't found a gluten-free roll "worth eating" yet, so maybe I will try to scout one out if I have time to go to Whole Foods.  She is bringing an app, so we're good there.  Thanks!!

ETA:  I'm making gluten-free brownies and homemade ice cream for dessert!
