Really?! You want to interview me a third time?!

This process has been going on for months with this job. I just got a letter of denial in the mail from this company not too long ago, and now they just called me and want to interview me a third time. Has this ever happened to anyone? I actually have basically interviewed three times already seeing how they gave me a test to see where my billingual skills were, and she basically asked me all the interview questions in spanish. This is a really great job opportunity. Probably the best job opportunity I've ever had. I really want to interview, but I don't want to get my hopes up. I guess I really have nothing to loose. Except my sanity!

  • I'll be honest with you - if you got a letter of denial, they probably offered the job to someone else, they said yes, they told you "no", and then the person came back and said "sorry, not interested after all".

Now- that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Yes, they had another 1st choice, but they obviously also really liked you.  So- if you're still interested, interview and see where it goes.

  • Yeah, I guess you're right. It just gets stressful after the third interview. It's like am I going to get the darn job already or not?! Stop teasing me. It's like hanging a piece of meat in front of a hungry dog.

This, or, sometimes I've seen it where there isn't one candidate that just stands out as 'perfect', so they keep going back and forth. In my current job where we were going through something of a rebuilding/high turnover period, we once asked the top two to come back again because there were so many new people already, we wanted to see how they would fit with the new dynamic.

  • I'm sure going through this isn't their idea of a good time either.

Go on the interview and see what happens.

  • That's horrible though. This really confuses the person interviewing for the position.

  • What a way to stress out a candidate.  I'm sorry they're doing this to you.

I'm being kind of jerked around by a major department store I'm trying to get a job at.  HR keeps bouncing me around different departments -- I'm on number 3 now.  Do they want me or not?  It's hard to know, bewildering and stressful.

Hang in there and best of luck to you that the position is yours this time!

I don't know how many other leads you have going on, but if it's a great opportunity, stick with it.  I just hope for your benefit, that salary expecations have already been discussed so that you're not wasting your time.

  •  Go for it, if it is a great opportunity. Good Luck!

It stinks that companies do this.

This. Many years ago I had interviewed. They called me weeks later and actually told me that they hired someone else and it didn't work out and that's why they were calling me.

  • Oh yes! I wouldn't be so stressed if this wasn't already discussed. This was discussed during the first interview.

  • Unfortunately right now and in this economy, the ball is in the employer's hand and some choose to treat candidates the way you're being tossed around. If it's a good opportunity and you want the position, just go and do the interview. Hopefully things will change and candidates, qualified or not, are treated with respect they deserve. I'm sorry you're frustrated.

You make me happy on a daily basis, Dr. L. :-)

  • Just out of curiosity, what is the position?  I speak Spanish and French and a just interested in knowing what you're doing with Spanish.  I'm in customer service, and while I have a great, stable job, I'd love to move up in the world, or perhaps move on to something using my languages that is a bit more interesting/fulfilling.
  • I had a sort of simliar situation with my last 2 companies.  I interviewed.  They liked me, they called me in for a second and third interview.  I got a rejection letter.  Turns out, they really liked me, saw potential in me but I wasn't right for their deparement.  They then passed me onto another hiring manager and his position ended up being a great fit.  I think for me, the challenge was they liked me but I wasn't the right fit for them and it took them a big of time to figure that out before they then passed me onto the other hiring manager.
  • I had 6 interviews for my current mid-level (non-executive, non managerial) position.
