Re: Kindle & Public Libraries

  • B just told me about this earlier this week.  I haven't had a chance yet to check it out, but I'm super excited!

  • I'm very excited about this.  Since it's online, can't we borrow from any library who uses OverDrive?

I was going to look into it. Local news last night said no, because you had to have a library card from that library - but I don't really understand why that would be. I thought, like you, it would be any library.

  • From the Amazon site - looks like you will have to have a library card for that library.

Instructions:Visit the website of a U.S. library that offers digital services from OverDrive.Check out a Kindle book (library card required).Click on "Get for Kindle." You will then be directed to Amazon.com to redeem your public library loan. You may be required to login to your Amazon.com account -- or create a new account -- if you're not already logged in.Choose to read the book on your Kindle device, free reading app, or Kindle Cloud Reader.

  • Yes, apparently so.  I went to our library's website, and it says you have to live in the district to get a library card here.  Oh, well.  I hope my library has a decent catalog to borrow on Kindle!

  • EEEEE!!  Exciting!  I'd given up on the library a while ago, but this is awesome.  I'll have to see if they have thing on my wishlist.  I totally have a city library card!

  • Ooh, makes me wish I had a kindle! I use the library all the time... it would be nice not to be carrying around a ton of books.
  • It's available here, but I haven't tried it yet.  I'm in the middle of a book now, but when I finish that one, I'm going to see what I can get.

  • amazing! Now if only you could get library cards online. I never make it to the library. Might have to put that on my list of errands for tomorrow.
